It does not simplyoffer a place to sit, it marks a moment.Two separated planes form the seat - slightly misaligned, never fully touching. Thisintentional distance becomes the essence of the object: a pause, a breath, a space forawareness. Like passing through a Torii, the user moves from one state to another - frommovement into stillness.The structure is grounded in solid wood, darkened to absorb light rather than reflect it. Thesurface reveals subtle textures - traces of the material’s memory - while the form remainsrestrained, almost architectural. A single contrasting element at its core acts as a silent axis,a point of tension and balance.Minimal yet expressive, TORII is not designed to dominate a space, but to define it. Torii KI (木)Inspired by the archetypal geometry of the Japanese Torii gate, this piece translates asymbolic structure into a functional, sculptural chair.The seat is composed of two distinct planes, subtly separated. This gesture is not onlyformal, but conceptual - an intentional pause embedded into the object. The body does notsimply sit; it becomes aware of balance, of presence, of the space in between.Crafted from solid oak wood, this version reveals the material in its natural state. The visiblegrain introduces warmth and tactility, while the darkened elements - made from translucentblack resin add depth and a quiet sense of fluidity. The resin does not fully conceal thematerial beneath, but rather softens its boundary, like a shadow captured in form. Thiscontrast between organic wood and controlled, liquid-like resin reflects a dialogue betweennature and transformation.Minimal yet expressive, Torii exists as both object and presence. Its flowing folds and glossy mineral surface blur the boundary between dessert, sculpture and design — appearing simultaneously playful and refined. Soft tones of vanilla, caramel and stone move through the piece like melted marble suspended in time. Hand-shaped during the resin’s most delicate phase, every curve preserves the spontaneity of liquid movement while maintaining a carefully controlled sculptural form.
